Overview
Roadmap
Kanban + Gantt views over Work or initiatives, by period or status, with drag-and-drop moves, compact cards and dependency chains on hover.
The Roadmap surface visualizes features over time, grouped under their initiatives, or the initiatives themselves. It is a columns view (one column per period, or per status) with a period selector, plus a Gantt view for timeline reasoning. Drag a card to move its target date or status without leaving the page.
What you'll see
- Show switch: Work (the default) or initiatives; see Initiatives view
- Period selector: pick which weeks, months, quarters or sprints to show
- Columns view: one column per period (or per status in the status layout); drag cards between columns to move them. A long column draws its cards as you scroll to them
- Card size: Comfortable shows the description, badges, people, dates and progress; Compact fits each card on one line (type, status, title, blockers, priority, first assignee, target date). Hovering any card shows its full details
- Gantt view: toggle for a timeline visualization; bars run from start date to target date
- Filter popover: by status, priority, effort, product, module, persona, team, assignee, plus a title search. The assignee filter lists people under their team; tick a team to select everyone on it, and search finds a person by their name or their team's
- Audience switch: All audiences, or one roadmap audience to see exactly what it sees (see below)
- Dependencies: cards say Blocked by N and Blocks N, in red when a blocker is due after the Work it blocks (on the status layout: when the Work has started and its blocker hasn't shipped). Only blocking dependencies count; "relates to" links don't. Hover or focus a card to light up its chain: the card, its blockers and the Work it blocks stay sharp, the rest of the board fades, and a line runs from each blocker to the Work it blocks, red when it's out of order. A related card scrolled out of its column gets a dashed line to the column's edge. A slipped card also links to the ghost where it was first due. The Gantt draws every dependency at rest, from the end of the blocker's bar to the start of the bar it blocks, stronger for the hovered bar and red when the blocked bar starts before its blocker ends
Common actions
- Click any card → opens the feature detail (initiatives appear as group headers inside each column, not as cards)
- Drag a card between columns to move its target date, or its status in the status layout. With a mouse, drag it from anywhere on the card (a press that moves less than a few pixels is a click); on a touch screen, hold its grip. The column under the card says what the drop will do, the card moves as soon as you let go, and it moves back with an error if the change can't be saved
- Use the filter popover to scope by team, product or assignee
- Bookmark or share the page address to keep a view: the layout, period, picked periods, Current toggle, card size, Work or initiatives, filters and search are all in it (

Period modes
The period selector supports four modes:
- Quarter: the default; one column per selected quarter.
- Month: columns are calendar months across a chosen span.
- Week: columns are calendar weeks across a chosen span.
- Sprint: columns are sprint windows computed from the workspace Sprint Cadence.
Your mode, visible periods, card size and Work or initiatives choice are remembered in the browser.
Initiatives view
Switch Show to initiatives to lay out the initiatives themselves, one card each:
- By period: an initiative sits in the period of its target date, or in Unscheduled without one. Drag it to another period to make that period's last day its target date.
- By status: columns are Proposed, Planned, Active, At Risk, Paused and Completed, the buckets the Initiatives page uses. Drag a card to another column to set that status.
- Gantt: one bar per initiative in a lane per theme, from the earliest start of its Work to its target date (four weeks before the target when none of its Work has dates), filled to the share of its Work that has shipped. Drag the bar to move its target date.
Each card shows its status, target date and owner, a bar splitting its Work into shipped, in progress, planned, blocked and not started, and how much has shipped. Work under the bar lists its Work in place. The Filter popover filters initiatives by status, and the search box by title.
Audiences
Pick an audience in the Audience switch (in the Filters sheet on a phone) to see the roadmap as that audience does: only Work tagged with it, at least its smallest size. A line under the toolbar says what's shown and, when the audience has a share link, offers Copy share link. The pick is in the page address (?audience=…), so a bookmarked view keeps it. Tag Work in its dialog's Roadmap field, and manage audiences in Roadmap Audiences.
Public roadmap
A public per-workspace roadmap ships as an embeddable page at /embed/{workspace-slug}/roadmap: three columns (Planned / In Progress / Shipped, with In Review and Testing folded into In Progress), roadmap-flagged work-item types only, and with roadmap audiences on, only Work tagged for a public audience such as Customers, up to 100 features, no sign-in required. It is off by default and has no Settings toggle yet; an owner or admin switches the public_roadmap_enabled flag through the API or the MCP action update_workspace_public_surfaces, as described in the Settings overview.
Data flow
Cards are drawn from features (grouped under their linked initiatives) filtered to the selected period and active filters; the Initiatives view draws from initiatives, rolling up their linked features. Only features whose work-item type has the Roadmap toggle on appear, and the lifecycle counts follow the same rule. Feature is the only type flagged by default, so bugs and tech debt stay off the board until you switch them on in Work-Item Types. Drag-and-drop moves write the new target_date (or status) through the API, which notifies the people on the item and records the change in the audit log.
