Overview
Copilot
Ask the Copilot about your workspace as a modal, docked beside the page, or on its own full page, and keep the same conversation as you switch.
The Copilot reads your workspace, answers with pills that open the items it used, and proposes changes you apply with one click. It opens three ways, and one conversation follows you between them.
Three modes
| Mode | What it is | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Modal | A dialog centered over the page | A quick question |
| Docked | A panel on the right, with no backdrop, so the page stays usable; drag its left edge to resize it | Working through a list while you ask about it |
| Full page | The Copilot page, second in the sidebar after Dashboard | Longer conversations |
Open the Copilot with Ask Copilot in the topbar or ⌘. / Ctrl+., which opens Modal or Docked, whichever you used last on this device. Open the full page from Copilot in the sidebar or the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K).
Switching modes
The three buttons at the top of the Copilot switch between Modal, Docked and Full page. ⌘⇧M / Ctrl+Shift+M steps through them in that order while focus is in the Copilot. With an item open, the same key cycles the item's view instead unless focus is in the Copilot.
Switching keeps the messages, a reply that is still arriving, any attached items and what you were typing.
- To Full page: the Copilot page opens with the conversation.
- From Full page to Docked or Modal: you go back to the page you were on before the Copilot page (or the Dashboard if you came straight to it), with the Copilot open in that mode.
On the Copilot page, ⌘. / Ctrl+. and Ask Copilot move the cursor to the message box instead of opening a second Copilot. Ask Copilot about it on an item (⌘I / Ctrl+I from its right-click menu) attaches the item to the conversation on the page.
On a phone, Modal and Docked both open as a sheet, and the mode buttons are hidden. The Copilot page is in the sidebar menu.
Answers
- Every item an answer names is a pill. Click it to open the item,
⌘/Ctrl-click to open it in a new tab, and hover it for the same summary card the item shows everywhere else. An id beside a name the answer already gives, such asWRK-000078, is a small id chip that opens the item too. - The steps come first. While the Copilot works, a list above the answer shows what it is doing: each search with how many items it found, and each item it read. Once the answer arrives the list folds to one line, Worked through N steps; click it to see the steps again.
- Tables and links show as tables and links. Links to pages in ProductOS stay in the app; links elsewhere open in a new tab.
- Proposed changes show the item they change as a pill. After Apply or Create, Open opens the item in the app.
- Stop: while a reply is arriving, the send button becomes Stop.
Items attached with Ask Copilot about it show above the message box. Click one to open it, or its × to take it out of the conversation.
Insight
Opened from the topbar, the dialog starts on Insight: a summary of the page or the open item, with questions to ask about it. The items it names are the same pills as in answers, including competitors, SWOT items and other strategy records. Typing in the box under it, or choosing a question, moves to the chat. The Copilot page is the chat alone.
Where it is turned on for your workspace, Insight starts with a Quick look: counts from the page's rows, such as what was added this week and what has no theme, within a second. A Deeper analysis follows, listing each step as it happens and showing its headline as soon as it is written, until the full summary replaces both, usually in about half a minute. You can ask a question meanwhile. Closing the dialog doesn't stop the analysis: open it again and it is where it was, or finished. Refresh starts a new one.
Starting over
- New chat, on the Copilot page or at the top of the chat in the dialog, clears the conversation and the attached items.
- Closing the dialog (its close button,
Esc, or a click outside it in Modal) after chatting in it ends the conversation, unless the conversation has been on the Copilot page. A conversation from the page stays until New chat, so you can dock it, close the panel and find it on the page again. Closing a dialog you only used for Insight leaves the conversation alone. - Resume last chat, under an empty conversation, brings back the last one in this tab, without its applied changes.
