Connecting Slack

Register a Slack incoming webhook as an outbound notification destination. Only the connection test message is sent; per-event posts are planned.

The Slack integration is outbound only: ProductOS posts structured messages into a Slack channel via an incoming webhook URL you provide. There is no OAuth flow, no Slack app to install, no slash command, and no inbound feedback path. If you need teammates to file feedback from Slack, route a Slack message action through Zapier / Make / n8n into the public feedback widget endpoint instead.

What it does

  • Stores the incoming-webhook URL for your channel.
  • Sends a Slack-formatted (mrkdwn) test message on connect to verify the URL works.
  • Nothing else is posted yet. Release digests, outcome alerts and ProductSense summaries are planned. Personal notifications don't go to Slack; Settings → Notifications delivers them in-app, by email and to Microsoft Teams.

Connecting

  1. In Slack, create an incoming webhook for the channel you want notifications in. (Slack docs: Sending messages using incoming webhooks.) Copy the URL, it looks like https://hooks.slack.com/services/T…/B…/….
  2. In ProductOS, open Settings → Integrations → Slack → Connect.
  3. Paste the webhook URL. ProductOS posts a check-mark test message to confirm the URL is wired correctly. Only hooks.slack.com URLs are accepted.

Disconnecting

Settings → Integrations → Slack → Disconnect. ProductOS forgets the URL. Messages already posted stay in Slack, incoming webhooks have no delete API, so we can't retract them.

Privacy

  • ProductOS only ever sends data outbound to the webhook URL you pasted. It cannot read Slack messages, user data, or channel membership.
  • Outbound messages are visible to anyone in the configured channel. Pick channels with that in mind: once per-event posts ship they may quote customer feedback, so #leadership is a better fit than #general.

The same incoming-webhook pattern is available for Microsoft Teams, Discord, Zapier, Make, and n8n. Pick the one that matches where your team already lives, or use Zapier / Make / n8n as a fan-out bus when you need to deliver to several places at once.
