# Lesson 1: You're already a PM

> The Golden Thread in two minutes: six stages from a user complaint to a measured result, and why each one exists.

You've been doing product management since the day you started building: deciding what to build, for whom, in what order. What you're missing is the vocabulary and the loop, and both fit in one diagram.

## The Golden Thread

```
Feedback → Themes → Features → Initiatives → Releases → Outcomes
```

Read it left to right as a story:

1. **Feedback**: one user says one thing. Raw signal.
2. **Theme**: ten signals turn out to be one problem.
3. **Feature**: the specific thing you'll build about it.
4. **Initiative**: the bet: build these features, expect this change.
5. **Release**: the bundle that actually ships, with a date.
6. **Outcome**: did the number move? That's the whole point.

Each arrow is a real, queryable link in your workspace, not a vibe. You can walk any thread downstream (*what did this complaint become?*) or upstream (*which users earned this win?*).

## Why founders skip steps, and what it costs

Most solo founders run a two-stage loop: **idea → code**. It's fast, and it works right up until it doesn't:

- Skipping **feedback → theme** means you fix symptoms one ticket at a time.
- Skipping **initiative** means you can't say what you expected to change, so you can't learn when it doesn't.
- Skipping **outcome** means shipping feels like progress whether or not it was.

The thread doesn't slow you down. It's the difference between building what's loud and knowing why every line of code exists.

## Do it now

Open [the Golden Thread](https://productos.ca/documentation/pages/overview/golden-thread) and click any card. Follow one thread end to end, feedback through outcome. If your workspace was seeded during onboarding, walk a sample thread; if you've removed the samples, the diagram above is the map, and Lesson 2 starts filling it with your real data.

> **Done?**
>
> Mark the lesson done in the Learn panel (press <strong>G L</strong>), then move to Lesson 2, capturing your first real signals.
